Top Poker Games

Contrary to what many people think, Poker is not one single game but rather a family of games. Over the years that poker has been in existence, many versions and variants have sprung up over the world. With online casinos becoming more common, these variants have become highly accessible to the masses.

The most commonly known and popular form of poker is Texas Hold’em. This game involves just a two-card hand with five community cards placed face up on the table. As with all forms of poker the aim is to acquire the highest value hand with the cards present. Players can use a combination of their own cards and the five community cards. The hand has to be of five cards but players can use both a mix of their cards or simply all the community cards as their hand. Betting takes place in turn as each player determines whether to fold, stick, raise or call. For a more in depth look at the rules of Texas Hold’em, read more here.

Another popular variant is Omaha. This is another community card game. Along similar lines to Hold’em, players in Omaha are dealt four cards instead of two. However players must then make the choice to discard two of these cards. Their final hand must be made using the two cards in their hand and three of the five community cards that are face up on the table.

Other game variants include Razz, Five Card draw and Seven Card Stud. The latter game used to be the most popular poker version until the arrival of Hold’em. Many argue that Stud offers more information to players and therefore requires greater skill and strategy than any of the other variants. Each player is dealt up to seven cards throughout the game. There are no community cards though some of the player cards will be dealt face up thus giving opponents more information to determine the outcome of the game.
With so many poker options there is something for everyone to enjoy.
